About Semax / Selank

Semax and Selank are synthetic heptapeptides sharing a stabilizing structural motif, developed by Russian researchers from different parent hormones — Semax from ACTH, Selank from tuftsin (an immune-signaling peptide). Semax is approved as a medicine in Russia for cognitive impairment following ischemic stroke; Selank has been studied there for generalized anxiety and neurasthenia (a fatigue-and-stress condition).

What the research shows — and its limits

Both peptides have a real regulatory foothold in Russia, unlike many wellness-market peptides, and Semax specifically has been studied for effects on BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) levels and stroke recovery outcomes. However, a 2026 comparative review notes that the bulk of Semax and Selank clinical evidence originates from a small number of Russian research institutions, much of it published in Russian-language journals and not independently replicated in Western randomized controlled trials. Available human imaging studies (small fMRI studies of brain connectivity) are mechanistic and exploratory rather than clinical efficacy trials.

Regulatory note

Semax is among the peptides currently under FDA Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee review as of mid-2026.

Who it's for

This combination is often considered by adults interested in cognitive clarity and stress resilience, with a clear-eyed understanding that most of the supporting research hasn't been independently replicated outside the originating research groups.

How It's Administered

Both peptides are commonly administered via subcutaneous injection or intranasal delivery. Your physician will determine an appropriate protocol during your evaluation.

Safety & Considerations

Available data from Russian clinical use has not identified significant safety concerns for either compound, but neither has the large-scale, independently-replicated controlled trial base of an FDA-approved medication.
